Advocacy

In November 2025, my wheelchair accessible van was towed from a parking garage at the Orlando International Airport for occupying two parking spaces. All of the accessible van spaces were occupied, and she had no safe parking alternative to exit her vehicle. There was no law in place in Florida to prevent this from happening, so she reached out to her state representative for help. Together, they crafted a line amendment that got universally adopted by the Commerce Committee, and the transportation bill it’s attached to is very likely to pass.

There are only a few states where similar legislation has been passed, so I put together all the information you need to reach out to your state representatives to help create (and hopefully pass) similar legislation in your state! It’s a slow process, but after my success here in Florida, I’m hoping to make this a national movement that can help wheelchair users across the country. Start with the step-by-step guide, and please reach out to keep me updated on your progress!
